Cardano's scalability. Tweet from Apolo StakePool

Cardano was never used as much as the last 48hs, and this is without having SundaeSwap and other dapps running yet.
Expect a lot of FUD when Sundae comes out on Thursday 1/20, due to the congestion and delays that will occur in the first two or three weeks.

Simple thread comes out 🧵

The reality is clear: Right now the mainnet is not ready to scale to the need for a defi ecosystem.

The size in the blocks has been filling more and more during the last months. With many dapps launching soon, this growth will not stop.

Taking this into account, it is important to clarify several things:

1. The blockchain is with all the minimum parameters (very conservative), and Plutus (the new programming language) is not optimized.

Cardano was ALWAYS: accuracy, security and decentralization first...
3/n
then optimization and scalability. In this last part we are now.

2. This year there are going to be three hard forks to optimize and scale (among others). February, June and October. Don't underestimate the scalability boost coming in the Feb and Jun
4/n hardforks
Between Feb-Jun hardforks the scalability will be increased by 20x to 40x, enough to support current demand. And it will increase more in October.
3. All optimizations will affect dapps that are already running, without the need to implement them again.
5/n
4. The way to scale is planned years ago, not that you have to redo everything again (as with ethereum 2.0).
5. It will scale in about 11 different ways, you can read about them here:
( iohk.io/en/blog/posts/… )

How we’re scaling Cardano in 2022 - IOHK BlogWith core smart contract capability now deployed, the next phase for Cardano focuses on performance optimization and scaling. And it starts right here…https://iohk.io/en/blog/posts/2022/01/14/how-we-re-scaling-cardano-in-2022/
6. Everything that runs is already explained in an academic paper approved by peer review and tested on testnets.

7. This situation is exactly what the IOG engineers are waiting for. Said by themselves, for example in this tw space

7/n
IOG at this time wants the network to be congested as long as possible, in order to have the necessary information to make future optimizations.

This is ideal for testing in a real environment the new eUTXO accounting model, the new Plutus language...
8/n
...and really see how the blockchain reacts to huge congestion.

We actually already know the latter:
- The blockchain is still working.
- Predictable fees, do not increase due to congestion.
- No fees are charged for failed tx.
- But it is true that there are delays.
9/n
7. Ultimately, in the coming weeks there will be enough data for engineers at IOG to run optimizations and adjustments to support current and future demand.

In this way we enter the Basho era, focused on scalability and interoperability.
